Ewan McGregor on Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Ever Changing Hair Styles!!!

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Master Jedi. However, this does not imply that he has always been a master of fashionable haircuts.

Kenobi has proven to be the most follicly fascinating character in the galaxy, regardless of whether sporting a goofy ponytail (and ever-changing hair colors and lengths) in The Phantom Menace, rocking mid-90s hockey hair in Attack of the Clones, or dramatically reversing course to go long-in-front and short-in-back in Revenge of the Sith.

But how does the man who plays Obi-Wan feel about all those strange hairstyles, and what does he think of the latest look seen in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi (which will premiere on Disney+ on May 25)? We quizzed Ewan McGregor about the most crucial aspects of the next series as part of our exclusive cover feature on the upcoming series.

Ewan McGregor in The Phantom Menace

“I recall thinking it would be brief. I believe they were seeking for something similar to a hairstyle sacrifice in the military or in the world of monks in order to become a Jedi. I suppose you have to give up the concept of being married to become a Jedi, or you have to have monk-like tendencies.”

“What I didn’t enjoy was that after the main shot, there was always a period of time where we came back to do some reshoots.” And for season 1, we had to return six, seven, eight months after main photography, and I was working on something else and really can not cut my hair. And they made the shortest wid but that wig was so worst”.

In The Phantom Menace, McGregor’s monk-like hair wasn’t only unattractive. (Though it was unquestionably horrible.) Reshoots for the film put him into an ill-fitting wig, which did not hold up under scrutiny, according to the returning Star Wars actor. That wouldn’t have been such a big deal if they hadn’t chosen one of those terrible wig photographs as a billboard. Obi-hair, Wan’s on the other hand, was not prepared for such a close-up. (Congratulations to whoever made that decision.) McGregor is still looking for you and yelling at you.)

In Attack of the Clones, things didn’t get any better. That’s when McGregor donned a Jedi mullet, as the cast and crew dubbed it. He said the Bee Gees were responsible for his mullet.

Fortunately, Obi-hair Wan’s was ultimately improved in Revenge of the Sith. This hairdo acted as a transition between his rendition of the character and the original trilogy’s short-haired version played by Sir Alec Guinness. Of course, the impending Obi-Wan Kenobi film will bring the two closer together. And, like all of the characters’ appearances, this one is meant to tell something about Obi-current Wan’s situation. Obi-hair Wan’s is longer, shaggier, and untidy, reflecting his despondency.
