With a magnificent knock in the first Test against Sri Lanka, Ravindra Jadeja breaks Kapil Dev’s 35-year-old record :
On the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja etched his name into history with a magnificent unbroken performance of 175 runs.
Jadeja’s iconic performance propelled him past cricketing legend Kapil Dev, who held the record for the highest score by an Indian batsman batting at number seven. In Kanpur in 1986, Kapil Dev scored 163 runs against Sri Lanka, a record he kept for 35 years.
Sir Jadeja’s authoritative and polished performance made him the first third Indian hitter to score 150 or more while batting at number seven. Apart from Jadeja, Kapil Dev and Rishabh Pant had both scored over 150 runs while batting at number seven.
In Sydney in 2019, Rishabh Pant struck an undefeated 159 against Australia.
On day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium, Ravindra Jadeja’s career-best unbeaten 175, led India to declare at a whopping 574/8 in 129.2 overs.
Just when it appeared like Jadeja would score his maiden Test double century given the ease with which he batted throughout his innings, Rohit Sharma signaled for declaration, and the umpires signaled for early tea.
Jadeja continued to assault Fernando, as the left-hander took consecutive boundaries through the off-side. After that, Jadeja went after LasithEmbuldeniya, dancing down the pitch for a six and then sweeping twice for back-to-back fours to push India’s total above 500.

Jadeja’s followers and cricket enthusiasts alike applauded him for striking a century in his first outing back from injury. Meanwhile, India declared their first innings against Sri Lanka at 574 for eight.
Jadeja, on the other hand, could not be stopped once he reached three figures. The aggressive left-hander scored more than 80 percent of the runs in a 103-run combination with Shami.
