InTo film the naked sequences in ‘Batman,’ Robert Pattinson “counted sips of water.” –
The Batman has finally arrived in theatres, starring Robert Pattinson as the gloomy new lead bat, and there’s a lot to take in — both good and terrible. Director Matt Reeves offers tension, explosions, noir allusions, and a whole host of Gotham’s most recognizable characters over the course of nearly three hours, delivered by an excellent ensemble that is by far this film’s strongest asset. Reeves and Peter Craig’s script hangs off some really solid bones, so the film doesn’t feel its length nearly as much as it should. Despite the fact that the film’s tempo is fairly consistent, it is nevertheless lengthier than it needs to be. It also emphasizes the film’s slightly chaotic and sloppy character.
Pattinson is fantastic as Batman, As he goes about his vengeance-driven objectives, he is moody and scary where appropriate. His emo-kid black eye make-up and batsuit bovver boots fit the tone of this more raw persona, and the actor fills out the classic suit well (and don’t worry, that jawline isn’t too bad either). Bruce Wayne, on the other hand, feels less grounded than Batman, with all of his character development (which isn’t much) concentrated on one emotional scene with butler Alfred. Andy Serkis’ Alfred is likewise under-used and under-developed, as though parts of the moments that would provide more flesh to the Wayne tale, as well as much of his function, were chopped out.
The Batman, on the other hand, makes place for Selina Kyle, nicknamed Catwoman, to be a worthy friend/rival/flirt for Batman. Zoe Kravitz is so bright on screen that she might have enough chemistry on her own, but she and Robert Pattinson make a wonderful team who appear to relish delving into the depths of their characters’ heated yet ambiguous relationship. It helps that Kravitz can turn from fragility to badass on a dime, keeping Batman on his toes.

With the exception of Serkis’ blunder, The Batman’s cast is intriguing, flying beneath the radar of the obvious – even if it can’t find enough work for everyone. Jeffrey Wright is an exception to this pattern since he plays a character that is elevated to a more important part than in prior films due to his engaging personality.
The Batman also spends time delving into Gotham’s police force’s hostile reaction to the outside hero-turned-detective, with many of them labeling Batman a ‘freak,’ which is a reasonable reaction when you have a six-foot-plus man in a high-tech suit, swishy cape, and mask constantly in your precinct. In this Warner Bros. Pictures action adventure, ZOE KRAVITZ plays Selina Kyle and ROBERT PATTINSON plays Batman. BATMAN IS BACK!
The film’s most severe flaw is the clumsy speech it throws at its performers, whose outstanding performances frequently mask how awful it is. The crappy writing clashes with the rest of the movie’s cool aura, but Pattinson is spared the worst of it as a hero of few words when he wears his cowl. Indeed, Batman’s outstanding and abundant action moments guarantee that our ears aren’t irritated for long periods of time.
