The film has been described as a dark fantasy horror flick. Coraline stars Wendell and Wild, and The Nightmare Before Christmas is directed by Henry Selick from a movie script he co-wrote with Peel. Pablo Lobato, an Argentine artist, is in charge of the cartoony graphics for the frame-by-frame animation.

Selick, Peele, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and Sarah Serata produced Wendell and Wild. Eddie Gamarra for The Gotham Group, Joel Zadak for Principato-Younger, Peter Principato and Vin Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw, and Lindsey Williams are the executive producers.

This is the most recent collaborative effort between Key and Peel, who rose to prominence with their titular comedy show Comedy Central. They’ve each previously acquired their voices in animated films, most recently in 2016. Storks and Toy Story 4 in 2019.

Given that Peele’s production and Selick’s direction have previously portrayed similar narrative themes, this collaboration is sure to be a smash hit. The film was also given a platform for its world premiere on September 11, 2022, at the Toronto International Film Festival, and has already received “generally positive reviews” on User ratings before its Netflix release.
