A brand-new trailer has been released by Netflix for their upcoming film adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front, which stars Daniel Brühl. All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of German soldier Paul Bäumer, who, along with his schoolmates, voluntarily joins the Imperial German Army to fight in World War I.
Bäumer confronts the horrors of war as he and his fellow German soldiers are pushed to their physical and mental limits while fighting on the Western Front. He also learns about the horrors of war.
Erich Edward Berger, a German filmmaker whose previous works include the acclaimed 2015 German television series Deutschland 83 and the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Showtime film Patrick Melrose, is behind the new Netflix movie. This story is based on the classic 1928 book of the same name.
Ian Stokell, Lesley Paterson, and Berger also co-wrote the script. Along with Brühl, Austrian actor Felix Kammerer will play Bäumer in the lead role. The supporting cast also includes Anton von Lucke, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic, Moritz Klaus, Sebastian Hülk, Adrian Grünewald, Devid Striesow, Andreas Döhler, Alexander Schuster, Luc Feit, Michael Wittenborn, Michael Stange, André Marcon, and Tobias Langhoff.
In advance of All Quiet on the Western Front’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later this week, Netflix has released a gripping new trailer. The new trailer begins with a look at Paul and his fellow soldiers’ early days following his enlistment.
However, when he and his fellow soldiers find themselves on the front lines, surrounded by explosions, aerial bombardments, and never-ending gunfire, the soldiers are confronted with the horrific reality of war. The role of Matthias Erzberger, a German diplomat who plays a significant role in Germany’s surrender in the final days of the First World War, is also revealed in the trailer.

The novel by Remarque has been adapted numerous times, including Delbert Mann’s 1979 television film starring actor Richard Thomas from The Americans. The most notable adaptation, on the other hand, was made by legendary director Lewis Milestone, whose influential 1930 film won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The early Oscar buzz suggests that Berger’s modernized version of the story will have the same effect. Germany has also chosen All Quiet on the Western Front as their official contender for the Best International Film category in the following year.
Given that it has been nearly a century since the first adaptation of the classic story was presented to the world, Netflix’s trust in Berger to create a new version of All Quiet on the Western Front makes sense. The popularity of recent World War I films like the Oscar-winning 1917 by Sam Mendes and even the 2018 Peter Jackson documentary They Shall Not Grow Old demonstrate that the subject will attract a large number of contemporary viewers.
The movie will have its TIFF premiere later this week before getting a limited release in theaters at the end of the month. General crowds can tune into All Calm on the Western Front when the film drops on the decoration on October 28.
