Fans have begun speculating about whether Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo will return to helm the fifth and sixth installments after the official confirmation of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, especially given that they have previously expressed interest in returning for a potential Secret Wars movie.
The Russo Brothers won’t be participating in the upcoming Avengers movies, according to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, who addressed the claim in a recent interview with Deadline. Feige said that despite this, the filmmaking team is constantly looking for new projects to collaborate on because of the friendship and relationship they have had with Marvel Studios.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, the two movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, was unveiled. While the scheduled release date for Avengers: Secret Wars is November 7, 2025, the tentative release date for The Kang Dynasty is May 2, 2025. Both of these movies are presently intended to be the final installments in Phase 6 of the MCU, which will begin with the inclusion of the Fantastic Four into the MCU, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige during the panel.
Kang (played by Jonathan Majors) made an appearance during Loki’s season finale on Disney+, which many fans assumed to be the introduction of Kang the Conqueror, the next “big evil” of the MCU. Kang and his son Marcus were depicted as plotting to rule Earth in a 16-part Marvel comic series, which is probably another reference to which the term Kang Dynasty alludes.
The confirmation of the next two Avengers films, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, was one of MCU architect Kevin Feige’s most thrilling news during the presentation at SDCC.
The producer only provided information on the projects’ titles and release dates because both movies are a part of Phase 6. Currently, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty opens on May 2, 2025, taking the top summer spot in the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on November 7, 2025. But even though the movies won’t be released for another three years, speculation over who might help them has begun. Feige excludes two project favorites from serving as the project’s director, though he isn’t ready to reveal it just yet.
Following Marvel Studios’ Hall H event, Feige spoke with Deadline about Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Avengers: Endgame, directing Avengers 5 and 6. Speculation that the two wouldn’t be working on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars was categorically refuted by the MCU architect. Watch his complete response below:

As background, the Russos have been outspoken about their desire to direct the MCU’s Secret Wars adaptation. They have repeated that they are in discussions with Feige and his crew to serve as director, despite speculations of their Marvel Studios’ return. The Russos dispelled rumors that they might make an unexpected presence at Hall H for Avengers 5 before SDCC.
Feige now supports their assertion, even if, like the filmmakers, the producer acknowledges that they would like to collaborate with them once more. The Russos are the obvious choice for the MCU’s next grand finale, especially in light of what they were able to accomplish with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. But it’s important to note that.
