You Season 4 Finally Releasing on Netflix, Plot, Storyline Revealed

You season three landed on Netflix in October 2021, but the streamer had already renewed the stalker series for season four before the third season even dropped.

We haven’t seen Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) since season 3 of You, which feels like an eternity ago. In October 2021, the Netflix Original returned with fresh episodes, and it was easily the most bizarre season yet. Joe and Love (Victoria Pedretti) relocate to a small town in California with their kid in an attempt to restart their lives. But, as you already know, that’s not going to happen with these two.

So prepare for Joe Goldberg to get into even more trouble. Best thing about it? This time he’s going international.

Season 3 of You was incredible, and we can’t wait for season 4 to begin! Thankfully, we know that a fourth season is in the works, but the bad news is that it won’t be released for quite some time. We know for sure that You season 4 will not be released next month, thanks to the Netflix new releases list for June 2022.

“Reading Caroline Kepnes’ novel, [showrunner] Greg [Berlanti] and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted worldview,” said executive producer Sera Gamble on the show’s renewal.

Is there a release date for season 4 of You?

But, while we know You season 4 will not premiere in June 2022, we don’t know when it will be released. The new season has yet to be announced, and they are currently filming. You season 4 began filming in March 2022 and is expected to end in August 2022, as previously announced.

As a result, there’s a potential the second installment won’t be released this year, though we hope not. After filming is completed on a typical Netflix title, it normally takes at least six months in post-production before it is ready for release. We’re hoping for a fourth season before the end of the year, possibly for a holiday release, because You doesn’t require a lot of special effects.

“And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn [Badgley] bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past three seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season four.”

You season 4 potential release date on Netflix: When will it air?

Filming for season four officially commenced on March 22, 2022 in London.

The Netflix team shared a clapperboard from the set with the date on it. Naturally, the board was dripping in blood… because after all, this is Joe we’re talking about.

We’re merely guessing at the release date right now. If you’re searching for something fresh and exciting to watch in June 2022, go no further than season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, which premieres on Wednesday, June 22.

You season 4 cast: Who will be in it?

Penn Badgely will naturally be back as our twisted leading man, Joe Goldberg… or whatever name he’s going by these days.

During the course of season three, Joe rebranded himself into the ultimate stay at home dad with devoted chef wife, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti)… until his obsessive and killer instincts took over again.

Seeing as she was burned alive inside their suburban home at the end of season three, something tells us we won’t be seeing Victoria back in the cast… But then again, the ghosts of Joe’s girlfriends past do come back to haunt him from time to time, if only in his head.

“To me, it marks a really significant close to the chapters we’ve known of Joe. I do think that there’s got to be some really significant, fundamental shifts in the way the whole device of Joe is going to keep working. Because now we’ve seen him go through so, so much. In terms of the show and its tone, maybe there’s a pre-Love and post-Love, because I don’t know how much can be repeated.”

Tati Gabrielle may be back as Marienne – the next central “you” in Joe’s world. After falling for him working at the library together, she fled to Paris. And he’s gone to get her and her daughter back. Even though his death was blasted all over the news. We don’t see this ending well.

“Adam brings to the show a whole suitcase full of emotional baggage. The seemingly fun-loving, party guy is a gambler with a dark secret that he silences by self medicating. His desperation to prove himself has him taking big risks and trusting him may turn out to be a big mistake for his friends and girlfriend.”

Gage celebrated his new role with several Instagram stories which shared the news adding that he was “supremely excited about this”.

Good luck trying to survive the season’s run though, our friend. Anyone who gets on Joe’s nerves don’t tend to stick around for that long.

Let’s hope The White Lotus star makes it through the season unscathed.

Season four will also see a new arrival in the form of Ghosts’ Charlotte Ritchie, who plays Kate, a chilly art gallery director who is deeply suspicious of Joe from the moment she meets him.

As for the rest of the cast, we’d expect to see flashbacks of young Joe, his biological mother, and the woman who befriended him when he was in care but, aside from that, brace yourselves for an entirely new cast of inevitably insufferable characters.

“One of the questions we always ask on this show is, ‘What pool of privileged douchebags do we want to throw Joe into next?’ And there are a lot of untapped pools around the world if you just leave the borders of the United States,” said Gamble (via TV Line).

You season 4 plot: What’s going to happen?

Joe, as we said, is now in Paris after murdering Love who, to be fair to him, tried to slit his throat first. But once again, he managed to wriggle out of that predicament and free himself from the shackles of marriage.

The only downside was handing over his son Henry to their neighbor Dante and his husband, knowing this was ultimately in Henry’s best interests. (We can’t say he’s wrong.)

In the meantime, he has travelled to the French capital to find Marienne and given his aptitude for stalking, Joe is bound to seek her out. But he’s supposed to be dead after being slain by Love and baked into a pie, which should make for an interesting conversation between the pair when they eventually come face to face, especially given that Love revealed some disturbing home truths about Joe to Marianne.

“I think if Joe finds [her], he’ll live happily ever after and have beautiful babies,” Badgley joked in an interview with TV Line. “He’ll learn to speak French, he’ll become a writer, they’ll spend a lot of time along the Seine and they’ll send their kids to school in Sweden.

“No, I think Joe will remain the same. Someone this profoundly ill, disturbed, traumatized and violent has a serious hurdle before them if they’re ever going to heal and change. I don’t know if it’s possible for someone who’s that far gone.”

We should add that there’s no official word at the moment on whether we’ll see Gabrielle’s character in the future. Maybe, just maybe, she’s escaped him for good.

Chatting to The Wrap about how she thinks this could all play out if Marienne does return, Gabrielle said: “I don’t think that Marienne would go back [to Joe], like, definitely not. Though, I do think she would award him a conversation.

“Because, again, her heart was played with, for one. And I think for her own healing, she needs a freakin’ conversation, she needs to hear it from his mouth… I think it will give her a sense of peace… And I really want Marienne to like expose Joe, as well. I want that. Just, yes, I need that.”

“The most important thing about that last scene [in season two, when Joe is spying on his neighbour Natalie (RIP) through the gap in the fence] is it is confirmation that Joe is still Joe in a way that’s not going to be great for Joe,” Gamble told The Hollywood Reporter. “That he has not learned that he cannot just keep looking for the next person to attach his hopes and dreams to that way.Not that things have gone particularly well in the lead up to season four.

“I feel like season three is a season of a huge amount of just loss and tragedy for him,” Gamble said (via Collider). “And we leave him having lost or felt like he had to let go of everything he cared about really.
