At the TLC Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday (21.06.22) to commemorate the debut of Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic “Elvis,” the 54-year-old actress asked for the actor to be nominated for an Academy Award. She was joined by her daughter Riley Keough, 33, and Elvis’ ex-wife Priscilla, 77.
She said, “A thousand percent… I mean, genuinely, You know, I’m a bit biassed, but certainly, 100 percent… ” when Extra asked if she thought he should win an Oscar. Yes, I am capable of doing so as well. He performed a fantastic job, in my opinion.
She emphasized the “instant love” she and Austin had for one another, and Riley, her daughter, expressed a likable admiration. “I feel like there was an instant love and respect between myself and Austin,” Lisa Marie remarked.
He couldn’t be a more kind and humble person on top of everything else, and it was as if I had just grabbed him as I was overcome with emotion. “I believe that’s a big advantage,” Riley continued. He has a heart of gold. What he accomplished is amazing. You know, just from a performance standpoint… the mimicking, but also, like, really taking on his persona in that manner.
“I mean, the entire movie, but we watched it again last night and the older stages of his life, what he was capable of… you don’t see performers commit in that level… I sincerely hope that he is acknowledged for that. It truly is astounding.
People who have seen the movie, which will be released on June 24, have reportedly claimed it makes them feel as though they are meeting Elvis for the first time. This is according to director Baz Luhrmann, 59. Even though he did his investigation, Lisa Marie concurred: “You know, there’s mythology and stories, but it was never set down. Everything is just put down. Everything is in this movie, everything.
Elvis, which will be released on June 24, details the musician’s 1950s ascent to prominence and his complicated relationship with Colonel Tom Parker, his manager (played by Tom Hanks). Alongside Butler and Hanks are Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dacre Montgomery, and Olivia DeJonge. Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of the rock and roll royalty and the mother of Lisa Marie, also gave the movie high marks, stating that it “took me a few days to overcome the emotions.”
In a recent interview with EW, Luhrmann lauded Butler’s portrayal and said that the actor “lived Elvis.” He stated: “I was shown a DVD of a young man playing “Unchained Melody” while sobbing, and I was astounded by what I saw. How is that possible? “He remembered. Denzel Washington, who played Butler’s on-Broadway counterpart, shortly gave Luhrmann a cold call.
