The director of Moon Knight confesses that not every Jake Lockley allusion and Easter Egg was meant to be there.

From Steven dealing with Marc to Spector squabbling with Khonshu on top of having to persuade the entire Egyptian God hierarchy that he was the great man, Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight has a lot going on in its six chapters.

Regardless of how quickly all of these troubles unfolded, there remained one more twist in the titular character’s situation that could have intertwined them all: Jake Lockley. The scary third identity concealed in Marc’s subconscious was only exposed in the season finale’s post-credits scene, but he had been felt much earlier.

The first strong indication of his existence came in the opening episode of Season 3 when both Marc and Steven are taken aback by the violent deaths of several illegals, incidents they don’t recall happening to them. This kind of perplexity looked to be new to Marc, who had previously spent his whole career in management.

While the future of Moon Knight is unknown, fans are curious to see how Marc and Steven will handle Jake’s involvement, particularly now that Mac and Steven are learning how to deal together. They’re starting to think of one other as brothers. Isaac’s real-life brother, Michael Benjamin Hernandez, was recently verified as Isaac’s double during the show’s filming. Hernandez and Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab discussed Marc and Steven’s relationship in a recent interview with Marvel.com.

The absence of Jake Lockley was one of the most common concerns leveled towards the recently completed Marvel Cinematic Universe episode Moon Knight. Even though it was a small complaint in a six-episode event that received universal acclaim, the third of Oscar Isaac’s identities remained trending regularly right up to the finale.

When we eventually saw the hat-wearing driver as he drove Arthur Harrow away to what appears to be certain doom, it was a mid-credits stinger that promised a second season, which Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed yet, and which Isaac isn’t signed to star in.

However, there have been plenty of contextual hints, and secret clues, including Easter Eggs pointing to the third, alter before then. Cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo, on the other hand, stated to The Direct that not all of them were deliberate or intended.

The Taxi Driver film was an excellent pick for inspiration, not only because of its on-the-nose parallel of Travis and Jake’s jobs but also because of both characters’ violent tendencies.

Although Jake’s roots and motivations for his violence are unknown, what little is known about him reveals a coldness reminiscent of DeNiro’s socially isolated killer. Season 2 of Moon Knight has yet to be confirmed, however, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated that the character will feature in upcoming MCU projects.
