Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 5 Preview – Jimmy and Adam Face a New Threat

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are noted for having hazy starting scenes. As the program or season progresses, these scenes become more evident. Even so, it’s easy to overlook some of the finer points. A keepsake for Werner’s wife was being built in the opening scene of Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 5. Everything you need to know about this scene is right here.

Season 6 Episode 5 of ‘Better Call Saul’ began with a mystery.

The fifth episode of Better Call Saul began with the building of a plaque. The souvenir was a lucite-encased slide ruler inscribed with the German words “In Liebe… Deine Jungs,” which translates to “With Love, Your Boys.” During an episode of the Better Call Saul Insider podcast, it was revealed that the program hired an actual specialist to help with the memento building.

This sequence may have seemed strange at first, but that’s part of the show’s appeal. “Confusion is terrible, but the mystery is excellent,” creator Vince Gilligan said on the podcast. “That’s a cryptic teaser, and I love that our audience allows us some breathing room with moments like that.” “I’m hoping they think to themselves, ‘I’m not sure what this means yet, but I’m confident they’ll tell us what it means someday.”

The opening sequence of ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 Episode 5 is explained.

It’s revealed later in the program that this is Werner Ziegler’s slide ruler, which was made into a memento and presented to his widow Margarethe following his death.

Mike engaged Werner, a German engineer, to supervise the construction of Gus’ superlab in season 4. Mike was compelled to assassinate Werner on Gus’ orders after he became a liability.

Lalo, who had been hiding in Germany, returned in Episode 5. At a pub, he meets Margarethe, who tells him that her spouse died in a work-related accident. His coworkers offered gifts and sympathies, but they did not attend the funeral.

Margarethe walks Lalo home, then returns the next morning to swipe the lucite-encased ruler. In the season 2 finale, Gus attempted to have Lalo killed, but Lalo needs proof before he can exact his vengeance.

Now that Lalo has the ruler, it will almost certainly lead him to Werner’s troops, where he will be able to obtain the information he requires. This is why the ruler is so important.

Director Melissa Bernstein described the significance of the ruler in an episode of the Better Call Saul Insider podcast. “So the slide rule is like this type of old-fashioned tool that Werner utilized in his practice,” she explained.

“It was part of his overall toolkit as the superlab’s builder, designer, and architect.” And we’re witnessing as this sentimental item is encased in lucite or acrylic, eventually becoming a gift for Werner’s wife.”

“Later in the episode, Lalo sees this slide rule that has been carved into this monument, and when he turns it over, he sees where it was constructed, which provides him enough of a clue to know where to go next on his quest for proof.”

The initial sequence generated some misdirection, according to the podcast. Because of the show’s Breaking Bad roots, viewers may have assumed the scene depicted someone producing meth. That, however, did not turn out to be the case. Better Call Saul airs new episodes every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
