Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal had urged Zendaya and Tom Holland not to date each other, based on prior Peter Parkers dating their co-stars.
The Spider-Man franchise has a history of major actors dating each other; it all started when Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst began dating while filming Spider-Man in 2002, but they quickly broke up. Andrew Garfield, who played the next Peter Parker, dated Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy in the film; the two dated for over four years before parting ways.
According to ScreenRant, Amy Pascal was asked why every Spider-Man actor has dated their co-lead in an interview with The New York Times. Pascal was not a part of the series while Tobey Maguire was dating Kirsten Dunst, but she was present for the romances of Tom Holland and Zendaya and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
The franchise’s producer stated that she has no idea why it continues to happen and that despite her attempts to warn them, they ‘ignored her’.
“When we originally cast them, I took Tom and Zendaya aside and gave them a lesson,” she remarked. Don’t go there — period. Make an effort not to. Andrew and Emma received the same counsel from me. It might simply make things more difficult, you know? And they all turned a blind eye.
Meanwhile, since its premiere earlier this week, Spider-Man: No Way Home has shattered several box office records. According to Deadline, the film has exploded at the box office, grossing $121.5 million in its first weekend. The film’s global gross, on the other hand, has surpassed $300 million with $302.9 million and is on track to surpass $500 million in the following days.
The cast of No Way Home includes Holland as the web-slinger and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and is directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Maguire and Garfield, who previously played Spider-Man in Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-Man flicks, reprise their roles. Maguire has returned.
The rumored couple who had been in the headlines for their relationship status was advised not to date in real life. Amy Pascal, the lead producer of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was the one who advised them.
In an interview with New York Times, she shared that when they both were the first cast for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, she told them not to date.
“I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture. Don’t go there — just don’t. Try not to,” she said.
Amy also claims that she informed Garfield and Stone the same thing, but that they disregarded her. “I offered Andrew and Emma the same piece of advice. It might simply make things more difficult, you know? “And they all turned their backs on me,” she revealed.
Meanwhile, the sequel to the film is already under development. Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, producers of Spider-Man: No Way Home, have revealed further details about the film’s development and indicated that Disney/Marvel and Sony are “actively beginning to create” Spider-next Man’s film.
“As producers, we always expect that everything will work out,” Pascal explained. “Kevin is a pleasure to deal with. Along with Tom Rothman, who oversees Sony and has been important, we have terrific cooperation. Tom is a great leader with tremendous ideas. I hope it continues indefinitely.”
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ their latest film, has officially hit theatres. Holland reprises his role as Spider-Man, while Zendaya reprises her role as Michelle Johnson. Jacob Batalon reprises his role as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei reprises her role as Aunt May, Jon Favreau reprises his part as Happy Hogan, and Benedict Wong reprises his role as Wong from ‘Doctor Strange.’
