Sunday morning, Deadline’s Contenders Tv continues its weeklong celebration of the small-screen awards season with Day 2 of our in-person spectacular, which will include creatives from 26 more buzzworthy series on the stage at the Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles.
We believe you, like us, have had your fill of Zoom-related events, so we’re ecstatic to be able to host so many fantastic exhibitions live and in front of you.
Nonetheless, similar to Saturday’s big kickoff (full coverage here), which featured Josh Brolin, Jared Leto, Ben Stiller, Élodie Yung, Miles Teller, Laura Linney, Barry Levinson, Bob Odenkirk, Amber Ruffin, Michael Keaton, Selena Gomez, and Martin Brief, we’re providing a digital version of the festivities that can accommodate nearly 150 panelists discussing their crafts as Emmy season approaches.
Register here to watch the webcast on Sunday.
As always, you can follow along on Deadline’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts with the hashtag #DeadlineContenders, whether in person or online. Following today’s festivities, Deadline will open a streaming service on Tuesday with all of the panel movies.
Although the pandemic had a significant impact on how television was produced in 2021, there was no shortage of shows that delighted and educated us. There were new shows wherever we looked, from NBC and National Geographic to HBO and Paramount+, that served as a welcome reminder that you don’t have to remake former classics to create new ones.
That’s not to say we’ve announced a boycott of reboots: major props to Morgan Cooper, whose spoof trailer for the ’90s sitcom The Contemporary Prince of Bel-Air inspired the creation of the Peacock drama Bel-Air. We’re very excited to welcome Jabari Banks to our stage; he’s the incredible talent that took over Will Smith’s massive sneakers in this must-see remake.
Are you going to Yellowstone with Rip and Beth? Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton) and Jefferson White (Jimmy Hurdstrom) were on our stage on Saturday, and we had you lined up. If you can’t get enough of the Taylor Sheridan universe, the outstanding cast of the Yellowstone prequel 1883 — Tim McGraw (James Dutton), Religion Hill (Margaret Dutton), Isabel Could (Elsa Dutton), LaMonica Garrett (Thomas), and Sam Elliott (Shea Brennan) — is also present.
Unlimited Plans on Google Fi Are Becoming Cheaper.
Comedies on broadcast television have had a promising year, with new sitcoms Abbott Elementary and Ghosts demonstrating that they can still deliver chuckles. And if you want your small-screen entertainment to be disturbing and unpredictable, we’ve bought a few panels that showcase the most effective of the weirdest from 2021
on Saturday, we had Yellowjackets on Showtime and Severance on Apple TV, and right now we have Dr. Death on Peacock, The Scorching Zone: Anthrax on Nat Geo, and The White Lotus on HBO. (We all understand what you’re thinking: but wasn’t it a comedy? Allow us to remind you of the feces-in-the-suitcase scene, and see if you aren’t still chilled to the bone.)
Parting is always bittersweet, so we made certain to pay tribute to the greats who are departing us this year. Pamela Adlon will say a few words about her prior stint on FX’s Higher Issues right now, for example. This came after Jason Bateman and Laura Linney spoke about the fourth and final season of Ozark, and Bob Odenkirk and his team said a few words about the end of Higher Name Saul during Saturday’s event.
Most importantly, we’re here to support the disruptors — the shows that generate stars and tell modern stories that keep us riveted to the screen. Pachinko, are you getting ready for your Emmy speech?
We’ll ask government producers Soo Hugh, Theresa Kang, and Michael Ellenberg, as well as actor Jin Ha, how it feels to be a part of 2022’s most effective new show. And, since we’re on the subject of award-winning expertise, Viola Davis might be here to discuss her most important character to date – Michelle Obama — in Showtime’s upcoming limited series The First Girl.
Nobody understands how time-consuming it is to watch all of the amazing shows on TV these days better than we do. Who has time to take the dog for a walk or read a book? For Pete’s sake, Pam & Tommy is on! That’s why, since since our inaugural Contenders panel, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to select the best of the bunch for our Contenders series, so you may keep walking with Butch. In fact, no gratitude is expected. It’s an honour for us.
Apple TV+, Eyepetizer, Remaining Draft, Los Siete Misterios, and Michter’s are among the sponsors of Deadline Contenders Tv. Desalto, Movie AlUla, 4 Seasons Resort Maui, Jason Mizrahi Design, ModMD, The American Pavilion, and Tidelli are among the companions.
