Wegmans, one of the most popular grocery stores in America and an active member of environmental causes will eliminate plastic shopping bags at all its locations by year-end. Shoppers can purchase reusable alternatives for 99 cents or 5 cents per paper bag– Proceeds from these sales are donated to local food pantries along with proceeds generated through recycling fees charged outside our doors!
Wegmans is well-stocked to handle the change.
The popular grocery store chain has eliminated plastic bags at 61 of its stores to reduce pollution and save millions from going into circulation. “It requires some behavioral changes—you have been respectful of other people’s property,” said Tracy Van Auker, a spokeswoman for the company.” However, she continued by saying that most customers seem very pleased with this new initiative which will help them transition away from using these harmful items over time!
Customers at this store are pro- environmentally friendly change
Many people I talked to said they supported the move and one person even questioned how much impact it will have in protecting our environment given other stores continue using plastic bags.
The amount of single-use plastics Americans create is crazy, and it’s not just Earth that suffers from this pollution – we all do! I’m pleased to see one company taking a stand against our wasteful habits by donating proceeds from paper bag sales towards charity.
Jamy Rosenstein, 50 of Waverly knew that this change would be an issue for some customers but said he was willing to give it a try because the benefits far outweigh any drawbacks. “This is going help our environment and also help others,” Hilaire said about their new policy which will see paper grocery bags go out alongside bin liners at stores around town starting next month- thanks in part to funds raised through sales proceeds made off these reusable alternatives!
Joe Fasula, co-owner of Gerrity’s Supermarkets said he has no plans to eliminate plastic. While he understands the environmental concerns and would prefer not to have excess packaging for products given how much waste there is in our oceans from plastics getting thrown out with other trash – customers have a choice whether or not they want reusable totes now so I don’t see why this should be an inconvenience
“I believe it’s important we listen closely,” says Mona Golub reached after phone calls & emails asking about plans at Weis Markets, which does carry them
Shoppers interviewed outside the Wilkes-Barre Twp. the store said they support a decision to eliminate plastic bags at Sam’s Club stores and believe it can make an important difference for our environment! The retail giant doesn’t use these disposal units in its facilities so this is one big improvement over before when people had their goods delivered wrapped up tight with only cardboard boxes as protection against water damage or theft–not exactly ideal if you ask me; but thank goodness now there are alternatives available such as reusable totes made from durable fabric material (which will also keep things dry).
