David Dastmalchian, who played Kurt in both Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), has stated that he will most likely not reprise his role in the franchise’s next chapter, Ant-Man, and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Dastmalchian disclosed to Screen Rant at the red carpet premiere of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series Moon Knight that he is not currently working on the studio’s forthcoming Ant-Man feature. “It doesn’t appear to be… But that’s OK,” he explained. “I’m sure they’re working on something incredible.”

I’m excited to see what Peyton [Reed] accomplishes next. He’s a favorite director of mine… He’s been quite busy. I’ve tried to remain in touch, but he’s now working on a great picture.”
Dastmalchian played Kurt, a burglar turned security expert, in the first two Ant-Man films. Kurt, Luis (Michael Pea), and Dave (T.I.) were the primary protagonist Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) friends.
Marvel Studios has confirmed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third Ant-Man picture set inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in late 2020, with Reed returning to the director’s chair.
Rudd was confirmed to reprise his role as Scott Lang/Ant-Man at the time, with Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer also confirmed to reprise their roles as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne, respectively.
In addition, Kathryn Newton was confirmed as the new Cassie Lang, who had previously been played by Abby Ryder Fortson and Emma Fuhrmann.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Majors has joined the Quantumania ensemble as Kang the Conqueror, the film’s major adversary. (Following the announcement, Majors made his MCU debut in the Season 1 finale of Disney+’s Loki as “He Who Remains,” a version of Kang.) Later, it was confirmed that Bill Murray has joined the Ant-Man trilogy in an unspecified evil role.
Throughout it all, there was no mention of Dastmalchian reprising his role as Kurt in the new film. Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in early 2021 that T.I.
In Quantumania, he would not be reprising his role as Dave. This revelation came after Harris and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, were accused of sexual abuse on multiple occasions. It was unclear at the time whether Harris’ removal from the film was directly related to the allegations.
Notably, it’s still unclear whether Pea will reprise his fan-favorite role of Luis in Quantumania.
The actor has yet to be formally announced for the film, so Scott’s running buddies could have been written out entirely. Having said that, Pea’s initial contract with Marvel Studios called for at least three film appearances, so a return for the next Ant-Man film could still be in the works.
In any case, Quantumania completed principal photography in November. So, unless Dastmalchian’s Kurt is added in any last-minute reshoots, it appears safe to say that Dastmalchian’s Kurt is sitting this one out.
Dastmalchian, for his part, recently made the transition from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe, playing Abner Krill/Polka-Dot Man in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released in theatres on July 28, 2023.
