Last Saturday ‘American Cinema Editors’ 72nd Annual ACE Eddie Awards took place in a hotel. This year due to declining ratings and time length Oscar has decided to eliminate editors’ awards from television with 7 other categories.
So this year editors’ category will not be televised. Because of this decision editors and the academy is not happy. That’s why they hosted a different award function to celebrate them. In this article, we will discuss Eddie awards winners. SO let’s dive into the article.
Netflix’s, Tic… Boom! was also nominated for Oscar. In last night’s ceremony, Mayron Kerstein and Andrew Weiblum won for a best-edited feature film(comedy) for Tic, Tic…Boom. ACCE Eddie awards were hosted by Dj Lance Rock.
Warner Bros, sports drama King Richard was the highlight of the ceremony. It won the top best-edited feature film(dramatic) honor.
Pamela Martin edited the pic, which showcase Will Smith as a father of Tennis sensation Venus(Saniya Sidney) and Sarena Williams(Demi Singleton). In this film, Smith had a strategy that will take these tennis players to the global stage.
Because of the win, Martin and his film are leading the race in Best Film Editing Oscar. In that race, this film is competing against Tick, Tick…Boom, Don’t Look Up, Dune, and The Power of the Dog.
Other winners in this ceremony are:
Disney’s Eucanto won the best edited animated feature film. Jeremy Milton was the editor of this film. Next Denial Schalk and Joseph Fulton won the best edited multi-camera comedy series for Kevin Can F**K Himself.
HBO’s Mare Of Easttown won the best edited limited series award in the ceremony. While on the other hand, HBO’s Oslo won the nontheatrical documentary honor.
Motion Picture Academy’s decision of cutting editing awards are was not unnoticed by last night’s guests in the ceremony.
During the 2 hours of function, they criticized Academy’s decision. ACE president Kevin Tent attacked Oscar though he didn’t mention Oscar directly. He said, ” There might be some setbacks and slights at times which can sting”.
He also encouraged the editors by saying, ” Today is about us… We know our value. Any director, producer of any consequence knows that well.”
In Rock’s opening speech, he also jokes about the decision. He said that the prestigious ceremony is named after a famous grouch. To him, the Academy’s decision of cutting the editors section for shortening the length of the function makes no sense. The crowd cheered after Rock’s sarcasm.
According to Deadline, He also added, ” Who are they going to get to cut that? The only editor I feel worse for is for whoever had to put together that Gal Gadot “Imagine” “Video” “.
This ceremony also included Lilliam E. Benson who was honored for her specialization in non-fiction fare. Oscar-winner Star Wars editor Richerd Chew was honored with the Career Achievement award. The Sundance Academy won the ACE Eddie Awards’ top honor, Golden Eddie for their amazing work. This is the first film organization that won this award.
In her thank you speech, Benson said a quote from an episode of Eye in the Prize, ” Leaning, leaning safe and secure from all alarm. Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arm.” After that, she closed her speech.
