Madison Cawthorn, a North Carolina rookie representative, revealed on a podcast that the other congress members conduct orgies and do cocaine. Reuters Connect via USA Today Network Kevin McCarthy, the Republican Party’s leader, has vowed on several occasions that he will have a harsh talk with one of his fellow Republican House members.
What kind of infraction prompted this trip to the principal’s office?
Since last year, there have been jokes about Muslim members of Congress being potential suicide bombers, as well as Jewish space lasers, violent anime videos that were tweeted, appearances at white nationalist political conferences, comparisons of COVID rules to the Holocaust, and appearances at white nationalist political conferences.
McCarthy has a new issue on his docket this week: allegations from freshman North Carolina Representative Madison Cawthorn that certain anonymous members of Congress are doing coke and having orgies.
Cawthorn’s comments, which he said on a podcast last week, have enraged the QAnon side of the party once again, and his fellow Republicans are irritated that they’re being bugged about it.
Actual D.C., according to insiders, is more Veep, the HBO comedy of Washington incompetence, than House of Cards, the Netflix soap opera about a cunning House leader turned president. (In general, I think C-Book SPAN’s TV captures the ambiance the best.)
However, Cawthorn, speaking on the Warrior Poet Society (?) podcast, stated House of Cards’ portrayal of Washington, D.C. as a hub of sleaze, sex, and narcotics is 100% realistic.
“The sexual perversion that goes on in Washington, I mean—being kind of a young guy in Washington, where the average age is probably 60 or 70,” Cawthorn said, “and I look at all of these people, a lot of them I’ve looked up to through my life …
Then all of a sudden you get invited to, ‘Oh, hey, we’re going to have kind of a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come!’ And I’m like, ‘What did you just ask me to come to?’ And then you realize they’re asking you to come to an orgy.”
“Or,” he continued, “the fact that you know, there’s some of the people that are leading on the movement to try and remove addiction in our country, and then you watch them do a key bump of cocaine in front of you.”
This could have been dismissed as a blunder made by a spiraling House member on a podcast and forgotten a day later. It happens regularly.
However, the claim has gained enough traction that members of Congress, even Republicans, are being asked about it by their constituents. That’s when it starts to become an issue.
Multiple members “stood up to voice their outrage and frustration over Cawthorn characterizing his comrades as hedonistic and sexual deviants” during the House Republicans’ weekly conference meeting on Tuesday morning, according to Politico.
Rep. Steve Womack of Arkansas was one of them, complaining that he’s getting questions about who’s using keys of cocaine and having orgies.
Members also urged that, if the rumor is real, Cawthorn name names.
McCarthy will handle the matter with a conversation in the meanwhile.
