BigHit Music announced via Twitter on December 6, 2021, that the world-renowned K-pop band BTS is set to take its second official break.
The statement read, “We would like to inform you that BTS is planning to take a second official extended period of rest since their first in 2019, after they complete their official scheduled events of “BTS PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE-LA” and the “2021 Jingle Ball Tour.”
In 2019, BTS took its first official break, which lasted about one month. This break was supposed to provide an opportunity for BTS members to rest and recharge in their own ways. Their fans reacted positively to the news, expressing joy that the boys were taking a well-deserved break since their debut in 2013.

Why Is BTS Taking A Break?
BTS remained active in 2020 and 2021 to engage with fans despite the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the world came to a halt in 2020, BTS continued to achieve remarkable success throughout the year. They accomplished a lot, including releasing an album, performing at Grand Central Terminal, donating $1 million to Black Lives Matter, and charting on the Billboard.
BTS became the first Asian group to win the ‘Artist Of The Year’ award at the American Music Awards (AMAs) in 2021. Their recent “BTS PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE- LA” concert set several records, including the largest single venue concert engagement by any act in nearly a decade. According to Billboard, the four-night stand sold 214,000 tickets and grossed $33.3 million. They performed an opening act with their songs “Butter” and “Dynamite” at the Jingle Ball on December 3rd, immediately following this significant accomplishment.
Needless to say, the boy band is in desperate need of a break after putting in so much effort over the last two years. Their second break provides an opportunity for them to be re-inspired and recharged with creative energy. Furthermore, they will spend their vacation with their families for the first time since their debut.
When Will They Return?
It is unknown how long BTS will be on vacation. Nonetheless, BigHit stated that they are preparing for the March 2022 concert and working on an album.
“BTS will be focusing on preparing for the concert and release of the new album that will mark the beginning of a “new chapter” They are preparing for a concert this coming March to connect and communicate with the fans in-person in Seoul.” according to BigHit.
What Are The Fans Saying?
Following BigHit’s statement announcing BTS’s vacation, many fans took to Twitter to express their support for the band. They claimed that the band deserved a break after putting in so much effort since 2013.
One user said, “BTS debuted in 2013 and have only received two official breaks since then, one in 2019, that lasted only 3 weeks, and now another one in 2021.10 years and only 2 breaks… BTS are the most hardworking artists ever.”
Several fans are also looking forward to the release of their new album. They are confident that this new album will top the charts. Many fans also tweeted, requesting that others respect their privacy if they come across them.
The tweet from BigHit also mentioned the same. It said, “We kindly ask once again that you show consideration for their need to enjoy ordinary and free, everyday lives while solely concentrating on themselves, albeit for a short while, during their period of rest.”
BTS On Instagram?
On December 6, each of the band’s seven members- Jungkook, Jin, RM, Suga, Jimin, V, and J-Hope- launched their own Instagram accounts. All accounts are verified and have already surpassed 2 million followers.
