The Xiaomi Mi 8 is Xiaomi’s baby. Launched back in June 2018, not only is it Xiaomi’s highest-end flagship, but is Xiaomi’s main spotlight despite the existence of the Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Explorer and Pocophone F1. In a recent tweet by Xiaomi’s Donovan Sung, Sung revealed that over 6 Million Xiaomi Mi 8 devices have been shipped to date. That is, excluding the rest of the Mi 8 lineup. On Twitter, Donovan Sung said:

The Xiaomi Mi 8 isn’t a small stone that you could look over. It’s Xiaomi’s take on flagship killers aimed to give the likes of Samsung, Huawei and even OnePlus some daring competition. On the inside, you’re looking at a pretty typical, yet beefy spec sheet that consists of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 256GB of storage, 8GB RAM and an excellent premium body that showcases the best of Xiaomi.
Since the release of the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi has announced some pretty neat devices over the past few months, nothing that overlaps the Mi 8 though. Throughout the months, Xiaomi has released the Mi 8 Lite, Mi 8 Pro and even the Pocophone F1 with careful consideration. No matter how good the Pocophone F1 seems on paper, there’s no doubt that the Xiaomi Mi 8 is the fuller package and does represent Xiaomi’s vision for the upper mid-range market with its affordable $399 starting price.
If we’d make an estimate, given that Xiaomi has a number of storage of options with the Mi 8, we’d estimate at sales numbers soaring around the $2.4 billion mark at least. We’re definitely sure that the sales numbers are higher than that, but for now, we considered using the base variant of the device for its predictable pricing and ease of estimation. If not, we’d suspect that the sales mark could be hitting the $3 billion mark.
What’s even more intriguing is to see how well the sales of the Mi 8 has remained healthy throughout the months. Not only did Donovan also report that the Mi 8 has sold over 1M units in 18 days, but over the course of the next three months to now, Xiaomi has managed to sell over 5 Million units.
