“We are confident that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, we will make new and greater achievements in our journey to build a modern socialist country,” Xi said.

The communique issued at the end of the congress called for continued efforts to build an “all-around moderately prosperous society” in which all people enjoy higher living standards. The CPC has set ambitious goals for economic and social development over the next five years, including doubling the 2010 GDP and per capita income levels by 2020.

To achieve these goals, the party has called for continued reform and opening up, as well as greater innovation.
