Cuphead’s physical release date has been set. After clarifying last month that Cuphead will just be released in stores soon, developer Studio MDHR has narrowed it down even further. Fans will be able to purchase the game in physical form for the first time this December, with such a Collector’s Edition featuring a few noteworthy extras following shortly after. Studo MDHR announces the launch date for Cuphead’s physical retail edition, as well as a pricey Collector’s Edition with a slew of extras.
Few indie games have left as big an impression as Studio MDHR’s cartoon run-and-gun shooter has since its 2017 debut. Cuphead’s legacy has only grown stronger five years later, as more gamers are drawn in by its distinct 1930s-esque art style, dynamic hand-drawn visual effects, and demanding boss-rush gameplay. With cameos in other games and media such as the Netflix show The Cuphead Show, it’s safe to say Cuphead is one of gaming’s modern indie stars.
Players will soon have an unique way to experience the game, as Studio MDHR has revealed that the physical release, priced at $39.99, will be available on December 6 for Nintendo, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The retail version will include both the base game and the newly released Delish Last Course expansion, ensuring that newcomers get the full Cuphead experience right away. In addition, the standard edition will include an exclusive piece of art, six “Funnies” cards featuring humorous comic panels, and a special Cuphead Club card card.

In addition to the standard version, Studio MDHR and iam8bit will release a Collector’s Edition for those who want fancier extras and are willing to pay for them. The $199.99 bundle will include everything in the standard edition plus a hand – crafted Cuphead marionette, a hand-crank sound of music, a trace of the Ink cartridge Isles, and a unique game box sleeve. All of this will be packaged in a box that can also serve as a theatre phase display again for marionette.
Considering how popular Cuphead has been for the majority of its existence, fans may be wondering why physical releases have taken so long. Long waits are nothing new for this IP; after all, the Yummy Last Course DLC was only published this year after being announced in 2018. And, based on all of the freebies in the retail versions, it appears that the wait will be worthwhile, and that it will be over soon.
Cuphead is now available on Switch, PS4 Xbox One, and PC with physical editions coming on 6th December and in Q1 2023.
