This episode of House of the Dragons is exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes long. Is this the episode where the other shoe finally falls off? Where does someone take first blood and throw Westeros into the war? Or at least it doesn’t exist.
If I heard correctly, the never-seen Queen said she hadn’t seen the man in six years.
Damn it, now I have to find out who they are. Raymond (Brother of Corlys) says: Driftmark is mine.
“My cousin the King will have your tongue on the matter,” says Reynis.
“Well, he hasn’t been on the throne lately,” Vaemond replies. “It’s a queen.” He also notes that Corey’s ambitions only caused trouble for sea snakes.
Jump onto Dragonstone to see the Demon Cave. He finds loose mud and pries open a dragon egg. Actually, he is three.
Outside, he receives an urgent message
Pub, a heavily pregnant Laenira enters Jacaelis, who is studying her Valyrian language. She also catches a glimpse of Joffrey, who is much older than she is. The Daemons enter with letters and again challenge the claims of the sons of Laenira to the throne. Let’s go to King’s Landing.
Rhaenyra and Daemon reacted rather coldly, noting the dark makeover Alicent gave the setting.
Come to think of it, Aricent presides over the High Council and looks just like Princess Leia. She’s clearly not the kind-hearted woman we met all those years ago. Her cheerful demeanor gave way to an indescribable callousness.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra goes to her father’s room. Oh my god, how is this guy still alive? What’s the point – just die and wait for the pain to go away! A petition has been filed to determine who will take over the Driftmark after it was in/dying/missing.
“Oh my God,” groaned the King. “Now tell Aricent and Otto about that shit.” He just wants to sleep. All he ever wanted was to sleep. pathetic guy.
“Yes, please encourage Luceris to take over the Driftmark as the successor to Corliss… please,” Damon says.
Rhaenyra introduces two new babies, Aegon and Viserys, to her father. The poor man suffers so much. Even Damon looks distraught.
The king asks for tea. Daemon hands his brother a nearby cup sniffs the contents and gives Rhaenyra a curious look. Diana reveals that Prince Aegon was not kind to her when he cleaned his room. So they have a small problem.
Alicent has explicitly addressed this issue before. She sees her movements and tells her girls that it’s not her fault and believes her story. Unfortunately, the rest of the kingdom cannot do this.
At first Diana thought she would be thrown out the window, but instead, the Queen gave her a bag of coins, made her drink the “cleansing” tea, and sent the girl away. I mean, it’s better than the alternative, right?
Switched to Aricent yelling at Aegon to wake up. The much older man stumbled out of his bed, not knowing why his mother was so angry. “It was harmless fun,” he says of Diana’s affair.
“How can you do that on a day like today?” she asks.
The episode ends with Viserys reaching into the darkness and his hand reaching for something.
Final Thoughts on House of the Dragons Episode 8
Damn, this show is so good. The whole episode held my attention from start to finish, but after various time jumps it always seems to take me half an hour or so to figure out who everyone is
Honestly, his 90-minute drive exhausted me mentally. I loved the King so much that it saddened me to see the poor man go away, and saddened to know that I would never see Corlys again.
