One plus developers and fans are upset because of its failed promises. The main reason behind its failed promises is its violation of GPL, silently killing its developer device seeding program, and breaking all the promises made at its 2019 open year forum.
At first, the OnePlus company struggled to give its best in the production of smartphones. But the Nexus program and some other techniques came up with delivering a low-cost, developer-friendly device that you could root and ROM with ease.
The company got a standard place in the market and everything was good but now OnePlus broke all its promises, silently killed its developer device seeding program, and violated GPL (General public license).
OnePlus seemed to delay its release of kernel sources to developers. Kernel course is the core that provides basic services for all parts of OS. OnePlus was no longer releasing kernel sources for its device as required and when they were released after months of delay, they were missing pieces that were previously included, it was incomplete.
This delay and incomplete Kernel sources is a violation of the GPL agreement that OnePlus is required to Horner to use the Linux kernel on its devices.
Developers say that one plus is at least breaking the spirit of GPL by being so late, and it’s definitely breaking it when the source is missing parts that are required for it to work. They also mentioned that OnePlus was late to release the source for OnePlus 8T’s Android 12 updates. Many updates for the OnePlus eight and 8T have also been delayed because of this delay in releasing kernel sources.
OnePlus 8 and 8T are not the only phones that violated the GPL by being late and incomplete, one plus 7, 7T, and NordCE2 were also delayed. Customers may not be affected by this delay, because there are no direct consequences for them, but it is developers who suffer because of this issue.

One plus shipped all its developers to Goa, India to talk about how it can better help the community develop software for its device. There at the end, OnePlus promised seven commitment points that it climbed to Horner going forward, but now all the seven commitments are broken.
Here are the seven commitment points:
- Kernel source to be released on time for all builds including open build.
- We will introduce a bounty program for reporting security vulnerabilities
- We will be promoting custom ROMs and OnePlus forums and social media for the EOL( end of life) device.
- Concerns about apps getting killed in the background due to aggressive battery optimizations- to be fixed in upcoming updates
- We will make sure that devices of Cedar quickly to developers in the program after the launch of a new device
- We will be expanding the existing device seeding program to include more members
- More one-plus community meet-ups are to be organized around our developer community.
All these seven commitment points are broken by one plus, so one plus should take a look at what it’s leaving behind and the promises it’s broken.
