As per Associated Press Officials say an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday, killing at least 18 children as he moved from classroom to classroom, the latest horrible moment in a country beset by mass shootings. Law enforcement shot and killed the assailant.
“My heart is broken today,” said Hal Harrell, the school district superintendent, announcing that all school activities were canceled until further notice. “We’re a small community, and we’re going to need your prayers to get through this.”
Robb Elementary School has just under 600 kids and educates students in grades two, three, and four, according to Arredondo. He didn’t say how old the children who were shot were. The school’s final week of sessions before summer break was this week.

According to state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, who said he had been briefed by state police, the death toll included three adults. However, it remained unclear whether the perpetrator was included in that figure or how many individuals were injured.
The shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, was the bloodiest at a US elementary school since a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, almost a decade earlier.

In an address to the nation hours after the attack, President Joe Biden sounded ready to battle, calling for additional gun controls.
These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it?

“As a country, when in the name of God are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?” When are we going to do what needs to be done in the name of God?” Biden inquired. “What makes you so willing to put up with this carnage?”
Many of the injured were brought to Uvalde Memorial Hospital, where workers in scrubs and distraught victims’ relatives could be seen crying as they walked out.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erick Estrada, the gunman, who was wearing body armor, smashed his car outside the school before entering.
Gutierrez said he killed his grandma before going to school with two military-style weapons he had bought for his birthday.
“On his 18th birthday, that was the first thing he did,” he stated.
The governor named the assailant Salvador Ramos, a resident of the village approximately 85 miles (135 kilometers) west of San Antonio, although officials are not clear with the reason yet.
Gutierrez claimed Ramos had signaled on social media that an attack might becoming, and that “he warned the youngsters should watch out.”
According to a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it, a Border Patrol agent who was working nearby when the shooting began rushed into the school without waiting for backup and shot and killed the gunman who was hiding behind a barricade.
According to the law enforcement source, the agent was wounded but was able to walk out of the school.
Pete Arredondo, the police chief for the school district, stated that the attacker acted alone.
The number of individuals injured was not immediately known, but Arredondo said there were “many injuries.” Uvalde Memorial Hospital had previously stated that 13 children had been admitted. A 66-year-old woman was reportedly in severe condition at another hospital.
