Sony to Add 10 First-Party Live Service Games to PS5 by 2026

Sony plans to release ten GAAS games by March 2026, and they’re putting a lot of money into it.

Shooters, as well as live-service games, are two genres where the PlayStation’s first-party roster falls short. Even though Sony does not currently have any live service games, the company has begun actively investing in gaming studios that are working on them.

PlayStation Studios is currently working on several multiplayer projects, some of which appear to be destined for live service, including a new Bungie IP and a few others.

Marvel’s Spider-Man creator Insomniac Games was looking for developers to come aboard for a multiplayer project in 2021 and so as the Sucker Punch which has best-selling titles like Ghost of Tsushima under its belt.

There are rumors that Naughty Dog & Guerrilla are working on multiplayer projects, as well as the recently purchased Firesprite company, which is developing a AAA multiplayer title.

By March 2026, Sony plans to release 10 new live service games, according to their financial report. Many first-party & third-party studios, including Haven and Firewalk Studios, are working on upcoming titles that should be released around that time frame.

Twitter user Faizan Shaikh has compiled the following list of proven and suspected live-service games:

A new IP (perhaps a multiplayer shooter) is also being developed by Sony in conjunction with ex-Treyarch developers( now employed by Deviation Games), while PlayStation, as well as Firewalk Productions, have partnered to release a new multiplayer IP.

This means that if all of these titles include some kind of live service component, there are still four games that haven’t been accounted for. Sony is expected to reveal more about its ambitions for live service in the coming months, but, probably, it won’t reveal the entire scope of its vision until it completes its acquisition of Bungie.

Following the acquisition of Bungie, PlayStation head Jim Ryan revealed that PlayStation will be expanding to new platforms to increase the size of the PlayStation community.

“This can take many forms. And definitely one of the main ones is the ability for the wonderful games that we’ve been making over the past 25 years to be enjoyed in different places and played in different ways. We are starting to go multiplatform, you’ve seen that. We have an aggressive road map with live services,” Jim commented.

By bringing PlayStation games to new distribution channels like the cloud and the PC, Sony is expanding its audience and, as a result, its revenue. That’s all there is to it.
Sony will, of course, continue to produce single-player narrative-driven titles, but they will no longer be the company’s main priority.
