Battlefield V Would Come With Platform-Specific Input-Lag Optimizations

Battlefield V is set to be the next big thing from the folks over at DICE. There’s a month and a half before EA officially launches Battlefield V on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 family of consoles.

Learning from the feuds brought up with the launch of Battlefield 4 and Hardline, EA has been taking a ton of factors into consideration. Since Battlefield 1 was a very respectable release as promised, it seems like EA want to take it a step further with the launch of Battlefield V.

While the folks over at EA are busying finalizing, tweaking and polishing the game, the Multiplayer Producer over at DICE has been very active at keeping the technical questions answered and has been giving some insights on what they have planned.

One of the points that seemed to stand out was the fact that the folks over at DICE are now working on input lag optimized that would be catered specifically for each platform, at least that’s what the David Surland, Multiplayer Producer at DICE has said in a tweet. When asked about the lack of an FOV slider in the latest Battlefield V Beta on console, he said

That’s what I want, yes. Also specific platform optimization for input latency.

In another tweet, when asked if consoles would ever get a toggle for v-sync on consoles, he further added that the “Auto” option on consoles would disable future frame rendering and v-sync off. In a tweet, he said:

Yes, that is most likely part of the AUTO: low latency setting (turns both future frame rendering + v-sync off)

This is impressive news for consoles. However, given how consoles are really shifting into technical territory, an area that PC games are widely diversified in, I think the simplistic options are way better and streamlined for non-technical users.

Since v-sync adds a considerable amount of input lag trying to reduce framedrops, it seems like if EA is able to pull this off while keeping V-sync on would really be incredible for everyone. However, given that consoles would most likely be capped at 60fps, we’re going to have to see where this goes.

Battlefield V is set to launch on October 19, 2018 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. There’s a few ways to get it earlier than that. However, you would need to sign up for EA’s new Origin Access membership.
