HTC may be sinking, but that hasn’t stopped the company from inventing new smartphones. As a successor to the U11, HTC has come up with the U12+, a phone that may bring HTC back into the game.
Now since the U12 Plus is supposed to be HTC’s new flagship device, HTC has packed the highest-end internals to keep up with the game. You have your Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6 Gigabytes of RAM, a dilemma to choose between 64/128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. a 6″-inch QHD+ 18:9 display and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. For now, HTC has promised an update to Android P. When? That’s to be seen as HTC hasn’t promised or hinted time frame for the update. However, by the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like HTC would take long.
Regarding your camera sensors, HTC has packed a dual camera setup at the front and at its back. These sensors are in an 8MP + 8MP. At its rear, HTC has opted to pack in a 16MP + 12MP sensors. While the first sensor at the rear would really cater its purpose, the second camera serves its purpose with a wider field of view. HTC has also got videographers caught up. 4k/60FPS video is here. Alongside that, HTC has implemented their new HTC Sonic Zoom technology that smoothly allows you to zoom into subjects. Slo-Mo is also here too. There’s support to record 1080p at 240FPS as well which has been buzzing lately.
Regarding the features aspect of things, the HTC U12 Plus would offer their now ‘classic’ Edge Sense 2 technology that adds pressure-sensitive sensors towards the lower half of the device. Based on the pressure, you could assign shortcuts that would allow you to swift through your most used apps easily. On top of that, HTC has opted to include both, Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant to take care of your reminders and devices.
Overall I think this is one of the best devices from HTC. I am personally really excited to seem the U12 Plus in person. While it may carry the second-highest DXOMark score for now, I really want to see what HTC would do with the cameras here.
