“Sony’s PSVR Will Sell Extremely Well”, Says Developer

Sony’s exclusive PlayStation VR is about to go live to the masses. With it’s launch date set for the 13th of October for $399, many developers are confident about how Sony will take on the competition from the Rift and Vive.

While I am pretty confident about the PlayStation VR (even though I am a PC gamer), Sony’s PlayStation VR seems to be a solid contender to give its competition a run for its money. While the HTC Vive and Rift are superior to the PSVR, the PSVR is still no slouch, even if it were to be run on the standard PlayStation 4.

Considering the strong lineup of titles and price, Sony could take quite a slice from the VR competition and Sony’s efforts are showing exactly that. Sony is allowing all PSVR players to experience up to 18 different games (depending on region) thanks to the demo disc they’ve bundled with every PSVR purchase.

Considering all those factors, Sony’s pricing strategy should be able to bring a strong competition to the field, with the standard PlayStation 4 retailing for $299 and the $399 4.4TFLOP behemoth PlayStation 4 Pro launching this November.

With these factors in mind, to the average consumer, the PlayStation VR should cost them $699 with the standard PlayStation 4 console. And if they want to up their game a bit, the PlayStation 4 Pro launching later this November would cost them around $799 which is the price of the Vive headset only. Adding to those prices, some games would require the new PlayStation Camera for $59.

Although everything seems pretty good and strong for Sony at this moment, I couldn’t see many PC gamers who have powerful enough rigs going for Sony’s ecosystem. However, for the first-time consumer and PlayStation 4 owners, it’s a bang and a nice try out to check out what’s Sony VR ecosystem is capable of.

In an interview with MCV UK, Patrick O’Luanaigh expressed his thoughts regarding Sony’s VR headset. He said:

We’re very bullish about PSVR. Sony has created a supremely comfortable headset and is launching it at a great price. The 40 million plus PS4 owners don’t require any additional hardware – just plug in the headset and camera and it just works. PSVR will sell extremely well.

For the price of $399, Sony’s PSVR is set to release on the 13th of October and will be compatible with all PlayStation 4 variants.
