Before leaving to pursue a career in music, he was a student at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a member of the bluegrass group Special Edition as well as the gospel choir Higher Purpose.

Around 1986, he started working for Gibson Guitar Corporation, and soon after, he started talking to business representatives about demo tapes.

Joe contacted Bob Montgomery, an executive with Epic Records, in 1990, and Montgomery quickly agreed to represent him. In 1990, A Thousand Winding Roads, his debut album, was released. Home, the album’s lead single, quickly rose to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. On a variety of musical charts, several other songs attained high positions.

The following year, his second album, Regular Joe, was released. In the end, it would be deemed gold. Honky Ton Attitude, his third album, was platinum-certified. Third Rock From the Sun, his fourth studio album, was certified platinum in 1994.

Joe Diffie issued 13 studio albums, six compilation albums, and 38 singles during his career. He earned five Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits.

Diffie was honoured frequently for his abilities. For the song I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair, he received a Country Music Association Award in 1993.
