Dak Prescott
Early life
Rayne Dakota Prescott (Born July 29, 1993) in Sulphur, Louisiana. Dak’s mother supported the family by managing a truck stop while Dak was in school.
Dak played quarterback for the Buccaneers and led them to a championship while attending Haughton High School. Dak Prescott, a three-star recruit, accepted a scholarship to Mississippi State, where he won the Conerly Trophy twice and was named to the First-Team All-SEC team twice. Prescott broke 38 school records over the course of his four years at college.
NFL
Dak Prescott was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 135th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft as a young quarterback to replace starter Tony Romo. However, Dak Prescott rose up the depth chart as a result of injuries, and in week three of the 2016 preseason, he took over as the starting quarterback. Dak retained his spot thanks to his performance, which impressed coaches.
Prescott was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and won the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year award as well as the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Prescott appeared in all 16 games and threw for 3,667 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Dak set several rookie quarterback records while leading the Cowboys to the NFC’s top seed. From that point forward, the Dallas Cowpokes have brought home two extra division championships under his order, and Dak made the Star Bowl again in 2018.
Earnings
Dak was eligible for a contract extension at the conclusion of the season, despite earning a base salary of $600,000 in 2018. There were rumblings that he would almost certainly sign a contract worth $100 million, possibly even $140 million, to match Jimmy Garoppolo’s 2017 contract. However, that did not occur.
Dak turned down a $30 million-per-year multi-year contract in August 2019. When Dak suffered a terrible leg injury that many believed would end his career a few months later, it seemed like a bad decision to turn down this offer. Fortunately, it did not end his career.
Dak and the Cowboys reached an agreement on a four-year, $160 million contract on March 8, 2021, with a $126 million guarantee. The highest signing bonus in NFL history at the time, valued at $66 million, was included in the agreement.
He would make an annual salary of $42 million on average for the first three years of his contract.
Dak Prescott’s endorsement deals with AT&T, Adidas, Pepsi, Campbell’s Chunky Soup, Sleep Number, New Era, Beats by Dre, Direct TV, 7-Eleven, Oikos, and CitiBank total over $50 million in addition to his salary from the NFL.
Personal life
Dak Prescott was the youngest member of a family that included two older brothers—Tad and Jace—an older sister—Natalie Prescott-Smith—an older half-brother—and two older brothers. Jace took his own life in April 2020. Peggy, Dak’s mother, passed away in November 2013 from colon cancer.
In her honor, he established the Faith Fight Finish Foundation to assist individuals in overcoming challenges. Texas’s Frisco is home to Dak Prescott.
