From 1990 to 1996, Bruce was in charge of the National Organization for Women (NOW) Los Angeles chapter.She was the youngest woman at the time to lead a major branch of NOW. Bruce served on NOW’s board of directors for two years, but she later wrote a book that criticized the organization.She led an effort to boycott all titles published by American Psycho’s publisher, Knopf, for a year in the early 1990s. She also led a campaign to publicly criticize the book’s sexualized violence.

Bruce said, “What we need to teach our children is… not about racism, but is about violence against women” in 1995 in response to the verdict in the O. J. Simpson murder trial. She also said, “You are not welcome here, you are not welcome in this country, you are not welcome on our airwaves, you are not welcome in our culture.”She also said, “I don’t have time to argue with a bunch of black women;” she wouldn’t talk about the issue on a talk show.

She hosted a weekend talk show on KFI in 1997. Throughout much of the 2000s, Bruce hosted a national radio program on Talk Radio Network.
