Brandon Cole Margera was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1979. He is Vincent Margera’s nephew and Jess Margera’s younger brother. His grandfather gave him the nickname “Bam Bam” because he used to deliberately run into walls as a child.

His classmates eventually changed the nickname to “Bam” at some point. After his junior year, he dropped out of West Chester East High School. Later, he worked to earn his GED.

Skateboarding Career

When Margera was sponsored by Toy Machine Skateboards in 1997 and 1998, he made his professional skateboarding debut. In 2001, he joined Team Element, the Element Skateboards demonstration team; however, as of 2016, he was no longer a member of the team.

He also received sponsorships from Speed Metal bearings, Adio Footwear, Electric Sunglasses, Volcom, Landspeed Wheels, Destroyer Trucks, Destructo Trucks, and Fairman’s Skateshop at various times. Other brands included Adio Footwear and Volcom.

Margera skates casually but has effectively retired from skateboarding as of 2017, despite not having any significant sponsorships.

Film and Television Career

The CKY video series, which Margera released on his own, evolved from what began as him shooting himself and friends skateboarding and performing stunts. The individuals featured in these early videos joined together to form the CKY Crew, a loose group.CKY Crew members included Ryan Dunn, Chris Raab, Rake Yohn, and Brandon Novak.

The editor of the skateboarding publication Big Brother, Jeff Tremaine, was intrigued by Margera’s CKY videos. Tremaine selected Margera to join the team that would eventually serve as the center of MTV’s Jackass reality show. Other members of the CKY crew played varying degrees of supporting roles on the show.

Margera not only shared a central role in Jackass for the entire series, from October 2000 to February 2002, but he also appeared in subsequent Jackass films. The following are examples: The Movie in 2002, Jackass Number Two in 2006, Jackass 3D in 2010, and Jackass 3.5 in 2010.

Margera has also appeared on television in the one-time half-hour Spike special Bam’s World Domination (2010) and on the VH1 reality show Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn in March 2016, where he and his mother April Margera discussed his self-destructive behavior.

Personal life

Although their seven-year relationship ended in 2005, Margera was engaged to Jenn Rivell, who appeared in many of his early projects. In 2006, he proposed to Melissa “Missy” Rothstein, a friend from childhood.

The MTV series “Bam’s Unholy Union” documented their wedding planning and ceremony. November 2012 marked their separation. On October 5, 2013, Margera wed Nicole Boyd in Iceland. They have a son, who was born in December 2017.
