The frenetic Monk does not seek to master the good joe of the film, he seeks to lose him. Rasputin’s provocations are intriguing, and his styles are deeply compelling. The conspiracy-laden narrative makes him historically fascinating and Karel Roden’s performance in the part is note-perfect.
