The company has upgraded the Android 12L version of this form factor and has now redesigned the Gboard keyboard for folding phones. The new version is currently available in the beta version but expects an official release soon. Gboard’s new look comes to those who have signed up for the update and want to help Google with design tweaks and bug fixes.
Many suggest that the folding Gboard is a sign that the folding Google phone is approaching, but it is unlikely that this will happen this year. Mobile phones are somewhat more reliable, but keyboard layout continues to be a pain for many.
The folding version of Gboard splits the structure to cover the full-screen background, this way you don’t have to carry heavy loads while typing Galaxy Z Fold 3 or any other folding device running on Android. Interestingly, the Gboard layout has the G and V alphabets on both sides of the display, allowing the user to type on any side of the folding screen.
They should not think about changing sides to type words on Gboard. The first generation of mobile phones has been around for more than three years. And many users of the Galaxy Z Fold series were limited to a Samsung keyboard if they wanted to use split keyboard mode.
Now, they can at least install the beta version and start using the feature. After installing the Gboard beta version on your Galaxy Folder, you can activate the keyboard split mode by clicking the keyboard layout button on the keyboard toolbar. In partition mode, the keyboard displays certain keys on both sides, making typing easier.
As always, make-up is available in both light and dark themes. It also incorporates some Material You features, and Samsung should consider using this on its keyboard.
The Gboard Keyboard app also remembers which structure you like on the cover and internal display. Therefore, when using a cover display, you can use the standard layout, as well as the split mode when using the foldable internal display. This feature is not yet available for tablets even though Google has promised to uninstall tablet apps soon.
