What if’s Best Episodes Are Standing in the Race of Emmy Award, Know the Truth

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has benefited greatly from Disney+. Various streaming programs have been created as a result, allowing fantastic and unique stories to be presented that would not have been told otherwise. But, in addition to the increasing frequency of programming, Marvel Studios’ first animated show, What If…?, was released.

What If…? is an American animated anthology series based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name produced by A. C. Bradley for the streaming service Disney+. It is Marvel Studios’ fourth television series and the studio’s first animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series looks at various timelines in the multiverse to see what would happen if important events in the MCU films were to occur differently. Bradley is the main writer, and Bryan Andrews is the director.

Many MCU film actors reprise their roles, including Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher, who narrates the series. By the end of 2018, Marvel Studios was working on a series for Disney+, with Bradley and Andrews on board. It was made public in April of this year. Ryan Meinerding, Marvel Studios’ head of visual development, helped create the series’ cel-shaded animation style, which was inspired by historic American artists and aimed to match the films. Blue Spirit, Squeeze, Flying Bark Productions, and Stellar Creative Lab supply animation for the first season, with Stephan Franck serving as head of the animation.

The show took full advantage of the newly opened Multiverse thanks to Loki, showing viewers multiple realities in which the events of the MCU played out differently. Fans were able to watch the adventures of Captain Carter, T’Challa as Star-Lord, Infinity Ultron, and many more because to the cosmic creature The Watcher.

The show’s reception was mixed, but there’s no doubting how different the new effort was for the MCU.

Thanks to the release of Emmy submissions, it appears that Marvel Studios has decided which episode of What If…? is their favourite of the bunch: “What if, instead of losing his hands, Doctor Strange lost his heart?”

Laura Karpman discusses her work on Marvel Studios’ What If…? and what made the Doctor Strange-centric episode so remarkable in an interview with Variety.

The composer noted that she borrowed many of the original characters’ themes from the films while working on the series score. For the concert, she “filtered” them via her own harmonic language—after all, the Variants in the limelight required something comparable but different.

Marvel Studios has announced that the huge Doctor Strange episode will be nominated for an Emmy as the show’s best episode. Instead of losing his hands, Stephen Strange loses Christine Palmer in this alternate universe. Despite his best efforts, he is unable to reverse it—in fact, he dooms his entire reality.
