Resident Evil has one of the most devoted fanbases, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of their favorite games on next-generation consoles. Capcom revealed earlier this year that they would be able to do so since free updates for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 were in the works for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Capcom ended its presentation with some exciting news for Resident Evil fans on next-generation systems!
The Resident Evil franchise received special attention during today’s Capcom Showcase. First, the creators unveiled the first story trailer for Resident Evil Village’s next campaign expansion, Shadows of Rose.
Yesterday’s Capcom Showcase, which is part of the summer news blitz, revealed that these enhanced versions are available right now. That was a pleasant surprise. The Xbox update will also be accessible with Xbox Smart Delivery, making it even easier for players to get the most up-to-date version of their console.
Then, for a little while, we got some fresh Resident Evil 4 information, including a look at the gameplay of Capcom’s new remake. The showcase ended with a significant surprise for Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7 next-gen fans, as Capcom announced that a free upgrade to next-gen is now available for Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident Evil 7.
If you’re planning on playing these amazing Capcom games on next-gen consoles, you’re in luck because 3D Audio, Ray-Tracing, and better frame rates are now available. All of these new features could have a huge impact on delivering a scary atmosphere with absolute realism in horror games.
PC fans have already had improvement upgrades for Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 3 Remake, but Resident Evil 2 Remake will get a new update shortly, which will improve the game’s graphic quality while also upping the minimum system requirements.
So, if you think your PC isn’t up to the task of handling a visual upgrade in Resident Evil 2 Remake, keep your game away from an automatic update.
Resident Evil 7 will not receive a PSVR 2 treatment, despite receiving a big upgrade update on PlayStation 5. So, until Sony enables backward compatibility for PSVR 2, VR lovers will have to play RE7 on the original PSVR.
The new-gen versions of the three critically renowned zombie horror games will feature 4K resolution, ray tracing, a frame rate bump, and support for 3D audio, as announced during today’s Capcom showcase. In addition to these enhancements, the PS5 upgrade will include DualSense haptic feedback and adjustable triggers for more immersion (which may or may not be a good thing depending on your tolerance for horror.)
The fact that you can update to the new-gen versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 as long as you already own the last-gen versions is a huge plus. It’s unclear whether PlayStation Plus members who downloaded Resident Evil 7 for free would be able to upgrade to the new-gen version for free.
In other Resident Evil news, the most current installment, Resident Evil Village, will receive a story expansion, a third-person mode, and new multiplayer functionality that will allow you to play as the infamous Lady Dumitrescu. All of this will be available in October as part of the game’s newly announced Gold Edition.
