Olivia Rodrigo Finds Her Teenage Dream at ‘Sour’ Tour Opener in Portland

The teen superstar took home three Grammys the weekend before launching her first-ever tour View Gallery 10 Photos Olivia Rodrigo has two Number One singles, a three-times platinum debut album, and, as of Sunday, three shiny new Grammy Awards. On a chilly Tuesday in Portland, she finally launched her first-ever tour.

Glittery streamers, bleachers, and a pop diva in the Gwen Stefani special of plaid leggings and a mesh crop top make for a sour prom concert video. “Where’s my fucking teenage dream?” Rodrigo cried as he opened the night with “Brutal.” Fans in the pit raced towards the stage as she yelled, “Where’s my fucking teenage dream?”

On April 5, 2022, Olivia Rodrigo plays at the Theater Of The Clouds in Portland, Oregon.

Rodrigo’s all-girl band is a quintet of powerful performers who helped ratchet up every song, adding a little of that grunge-punk rush into even the more mid-tempo album cuts like “Brutal” and “Good 4 U.” The headbanger remix (which was foreshadowed in the current Disney+ film, “Jealousy, Jealousy”) benefited “Jealousy, Jealousy” the most.

The Sour Hour is the debut concert tour by American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo in support of her debut studio album, Sour (2021). It began on April 5, 2022, in Portland and is scheduled to travel across North America and Europe.

In July 2021, Billboard reported that the singer would be unable to embark on a tour until next year due to her television commitments and her contract with Disney. An official concert cycle was announced through social media on December 6, with tickets going on sale four days later.

Only a few thousand fans (mostly women, mostly under the age of 21 — like Miss Rodrigo herself) were dressed to impress for the big night, which began in Portland’s Theatrical of the Clouds (an extravagant moniker for the theatre arrangement across the larger Moda Center).

A delicious mix of unhappy rocker woman karaoke classics poured through the venue following opener Gracie Abrams’ set: Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps,” Michelle Department’s “In all locations,” Fiona Apple’s “Legal,” to name a few.

The song picked to announce Rodrigo’s and her band’s impending appearance on stage? One Path’s “Olivia” was the song that was performed three times in succession, either owing to backstage delays or Rodrigo being a larger Directioner than we thought.

Rodrigo’s all-girl band is a quintet of gaming powerhouses who helped pump up each song, even adding a touch of that grunge-punk rush into the more mid-tempo album cuts like “Brutal” and “Good 4 U.” The headbanger remix (which was hinted in the current Disney+ movie, Driving Residence 2 U) benefited “Jealousy, Jealousy” the most.

The 19-year-old chose to belt the sing-along, ready monitor, early inside the performance rather than saving her Grammy-winning, top-of-the-charts-debuting smash hit “Drivers License” for the climax, in a true energy transfer.

Rodrigo dove inside the facility after hastily shrieking, “Holy crap! Oh my God!” en route to the piano, overwhelmed by the reality of her first true tour.
