John Mayer surprised fans by inviting Maren Morris onto the stage during his performance in Nashville. The country singer opened up with vocals on “Last Train Home” before joining him for a rendition of the 2006 single “ Slow Dancing In A Burning Room.”
Morris was not afraid to let his creative side shine in this performance, substituting “bitch” with the word “d—” throughout both verses and getting an enthusiastic response from fans alike.
The two singers shared a hug following their duet, with Morris joking that his high school self just died as Mayer deadpanned, “I’m 65 years old.”
Just over 20 years ago, Mayer was playing high school football and unsure of what his future would be like. But then he met you, people! You filled up the stands with your energy so that now not only can we hear him on stage but also feel the it-the passion behind every note is thanks to all those who came out to see this hero perform his hits -and still do today despite being older than most fans attending these shows.
Mayer says they inhabit songs differently than other audiences because when someone requests something specific or wants an encore even after three curtain calls have sounded off
And when I play them, they’re right! There’s a lot of life in these songs. You hold me up to my work and go “No, we want you to play those.”
He wrapped up by saying, “You’ve done so much for me as a writer and artist. You inspired my creativity in ways I never thought possible!”
He added that without you following each step of the journey it would have been easy to lose motivation but now with all these gratitude expressions billowing from every word out of their mouth they’re able to appreciate what has happened on this new path together – even if some days are rough around here sometimes- because there’s no other place like home sweet home Pgh where dreams come true
The musicians shared moments from the night on their Instagram pages Thursday, with Morris writing “Hello! Maren can’t be reached right now because she went back in time and told her younger self this would happen years ago. She’s too excited; it feels like 2006 all over again.”

The two music stars have long shared an admiration for each other, but it’s only recently that they’ve begun collaborating. Mayer joined the country singer on stage at this year’s Grammys where he played guitar while she performed her big hit song “The Bones,” which features background vocals from Morris’ guitarist boyfriend ensuing in shot-skipacerbordbends
Mayer’s Sob Rock Tour continued through early May before he joined Dead & Company for their summer tour kickoff in June.
