All Elite Wrestling president Tony Khan finally announced that he is the new owner of Ring Of Honor. Khan was hyping up this deal from Feb 18 and finally, he announced that he has acquired the ROH. Last Wednesday night Khan announced this deal on the “AEW Dynamite” show. During the show, he said enthusiastically, ” Today I signed a deal. I just became the new owner of Ring Of Honor”. He also stated that this week will be full of surprises. The critics were already assuming about the purchasing of ROH since the day Khan created suspense regarding his announcement. Many even thought that he will sign Jeff Hardy. “Mat Men” podcast suspected that Khan’s announcement could be about AEW’s deal with HBO Max or it could be the purchase of “International Pro Wrestling Promotion.”
Last week Ring of Honor turned 20. ROH is an American professional wrestling promotion company based in Baltimore, Maryland.
ROH was created by Rob Feinstein on Feb 23, 2002. This company works as professional wrestling streaming media in the United States. In 2011 the company was sold to Sinclair Broadcasting Group who later in 2022 sold this company to Tony( C.E.O and Co-Founder of AEW). He brought this company separately from AEW. Ring of Honor started to decline when its star players left the company joined AEW in 2019. ROH went on hiatus on December 21, 2021, after they release all their employers’ contracts.
ROH has a huge video library of matches that dates back to 2002 and features footage of many now AEW wrestlers.
The financial terms of the agreement of the deal are not closed yet; though we know that Tony brought this company with an entity that is owned by him. Khan has purchased ROH’S video library, intellectual property, Brand assets, production, equipment, PR representatives and scheduled dates for television taping of this year.
According to Tony, Ring of Honor has a huge influence on modern professional wrestling is written permanently in history books and his acquisition will ensure that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with respect.
He also said during an interview, ” This deal adds thousands of content to our rapidly growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint on a national and global scale while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner. I will immediately begin exploring to make ROH’s video library available for fans, who’ll have the opportunity to witness the beginning of careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars.”
ROH will return with “Supercard of Honor” on Friday, April 01, and will be held in Garland, Texas. The promotion show will showcase a face-off of Jonathan Gresham and Bandido. This match will decide an ROH world champion. On Sunday, April 10 another ROH television tape will be broadcasted and it will take place in Philadelphia.
