Google Workspace Getting New ‘Integrated View’ Feature on February 8

Speaking about Gmail’s redesigned interface, Google has said that users would be able to test it out beginning in February and that it would be the default by April, and that it will become the only choice towards the end of the second quarter of 2022.

For example, the view makes it possible for Gmail’s other business-focused Workspace capabilities, such as Google Hangouts, to have their separate panels in Gmail that can be accessed via prominent icons on the left-hand side.

Google to Roll Out New Integrated View

An “integrated view” is the term used by Google, and it will soon be recognizable to anyone who uses Workspace. Google claims you’ll be able to play around with the new layout starting February 8th. The tech giant suggests that if you haven’t opted in by April, you’ll be shifted to the latest layout, although you can change it back in settings if you want to. As per Google, the new layout will be the “standard experience for Gmail” towards the finish of the second quarter.

When it comes to handling conversations and events, the present Gmail interface may be a little cumbersome, but it’s nice to be able to see everything in one place. It’s possible that for those who want to concentrate on one task at a time, the new design appears like it will allow you to easily access additional tools without keeping them constantly displayed on the screen.

According to Google, the new feature will also pack notification boxes to make you aware that if other tools require your attention, which might be less intrusive than, for example, seeing a roster of all your Conversations on the right or left side of your email.

This layout provides us a sense of how Google plans to combine all of its work-related services, with features like Spaces allowing you to move directly into spreadsheets without ever leaving Gmail.

There’s a good argument to be made that although you can “quickly jump between your inbox, critical discussions, and attend meetings without needing to change across tabs or launch a second window,” Google’s new approach does seem a little slapped on at this point. In the images provided by Google, it seems that the user layout will be more polished.

There will also be deeper integration between the services — for example, Gmail’s search will soon return Chat messages, according to the business. The company says the integrated layout will be available to those having Business Standard, Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Enterprise Plus, Frontline, Education Plus, Business account, Nonprofit, or G Suite Basic.

Workspace Essentials users will not be able to use it at this time. In response to a question about whether this layout will be accessible to non-paying Gmail users, a Google spokeswoman indicated it would be “only available” to the account categories mentioned.
