To be honest, Cyberpunk 2077 has been hit or miss since its release, plagued by frustrating issues that have left many people unhappy. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red has kept its word and is still focusing on the game, releasing a slew of free DLC in 2021.
Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a substantial update early next year, as well as a DLC expansion.
Cyberpunk DLC Releasing Soon?
The leadership of CD Projekt Red issued a press statement on November 29 to celebrate the end of the third quarter of the fiscal year 2021/22. According to the press release, the studio’s management is working on a “major upgrade for all platforms” for Cyberpunk 2077, which should be released during the first three months of the fiscal 2022/23 year.
Finally, the press release mentions that the company is working on a “Cyberpunk expansion.” There are no other details about this upcoming expansion, and it is simply mentioned in passing with the new-gen edition of The Witcher 3.
We already knew that CD Projekt was looking towards major DLC expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, as well as free DLC packs, although the latter was recently delayed till next year in 2022.
Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date
It’s been a long journey for Cyberpunk 2077, with many delays to post-launch plans like the RPG’s new-gen update, and CD Projekt Red even admitting earlier this year that they had “chosen to review” the planned Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer feature, implying that it may never see the light of day.
If there is a silver lining to CD Projekt Red’s turbulent era, it may be that Cyberpunk 2077’s user evaluations on Steam are suddenly “extremely positive.”
This would imply that the major new update for Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release between March and May 2022. The leak informs that the date is of 31st March but don’t be too sure.
Furthermore, the new update will be released with the new-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, according to a recent press statement from the CD Projekt Red leadership, after the version was postponed from a 2021 release.
Cyberpunk 2077 Night City VR mode
According to PC Gamer, well-known modder Luke Ross is working on a VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that will let players explore Night City in virtual reality. Ross opted to fund the project following a poll on his Patreon page in which his supporters chose the sci-fi RPG as his next VR project.
While no firm date has been determined, Luke Ross informed PC Gamer that the update should be available sometime in January, barring any development issues. While the REDengine 4 in Cyberpunk 2077 won’t necessarily help with translating the open world to VR, the game’s first-person perspective is already a step ahead of Ross’ previous VR efforts, such as the Mafia Trilogy.
