LG G7 One & G7 Fit – Next Gen Smartphones With Last Gen SoCs

LG started off quite early in the smartphone market adopting android as an operating system. Back then when most of the hand held devices either had Symbian OS or some other sort of Linux base OS.

LG have been trying out different things with their flagships such as the modular design of the G5 and the much more traditional and premium design of the G6. The LG market and fan base have been unstable recently and this new move by them could prove to be vital.

This time around however LG has decided to release two models one having the Android One platform namely LG G7 One and the other LG G7 Fit outside the Android One program.

LG G7 OneThe G7 One consists of a notched display design, the first ever by LG however looking at the rear we see that LG have ditched the dual camera setup here and instead went back to the classic single camera setup. One thing to point out here is that LG will be using stock android here and have opted for the last gen SoC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. This means that the G7 One could be quite cheap considered the general flagship standards. The specifications for the smartphone are as follows.

SpecificationsLG G7 One
Display 6.1-inch QHD+ (3120 x 1440 @ 564ppi) 19.5:9 notched FullVision Super Bright IPS display
CPU/GPUQualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 GPU
RAM 4GB LPDDR4x
Storage 32GB UFS 2.1 expandable up to 2TB microSD
Battery3,000 mAh with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
Rear Camera16MP rear camera with f/1.6 aperture, 71° wide-angle lens, and LED flash
Front Camera8MP front camera with f/1.9 aperture, 80° wide-angle lens
Software Android 8.1 Oreo (Android One)
Audio 3.5mm headphone jack, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, DTS:X, Boombox Speaker
Connectivity Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4 and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, NFC, GPS, 4G LTE, FM radio
Ports/Buttons USB 2.0 Type-C, Google Assistant button
Security Fingerprint scanner (rear)
Protection IP68 (waterproof and dustproof), MIL-STD 810G certified

Now the G7 One provides the complete android experience with that google assistant button built right into it. LG’s approach here is quite similar to what they were supposed to before google re-branded their flagships from “Nexus” to “Pixel”. Before the Pixel LG and google closely worked to make the most ideal smartphone but since the change of strategy things are different.

LG G7 Fit

The second variant by LG, the G7 Fit will be the lower end variant which will provide the complete LG experience with the LG UX software. Now the G7 Fit will ship with an even older SoC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Considering the spec sheet it is expected that the price of this variant will be quite cheap.

Don’t get me wrong but this move by LG could prove to be a game changer plus a 2 year old SoC is not really that under powered given that the software is optimized accordingly. The specification sheet for the G7 Fit is below.

One important thing to notice here is that both these devices will house a headphone jack if anyone was wondering and both the devices will come in two colors, the Aurora Black as a default and one signature color for each variant namely Moroccan Blue & New Platinum Gray for the G7 One & the G7 Fit respectively.

Further news will be revealed by LG at their event and for now things are shaping up for LG as this could make or break their position in the market.
