Xiaomi might not be a company you may have heard of. Ever since the company started booming since the release of the Mi3 back in 2013, its a brand that has built a strong presence in the Asian market for its killer affordable smartphones at the high-end and low-end of the smartphone market. With the company trying to stay ahead of the game with attractive smartphones, it seems like the next phone from Xiaomi might be a treat for budget users with its bezel-less display.
A leak has sprung up from a Chinese website alleging that this could be the Mi R1 that Xiaomi is working on. Alongside that, they suspect that the device would be priced around CNY 1499 / $230. What we could pickup from the picture above is that the device would most probably sport an 18:9 display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 and would come with a Type-C port to charge the phone. What’s uncertain is the presence of a headphone jack. Xiaomi has been very considerate about the headphone jack’s existence. Not only did they opt out of the headphone jack on the Mi6, but also on the Mi MiX 2. Definitely something to lookout for if you’re still hanging onto your wired headphone.
If this leak turns out to be true, this could be Xiaomi’s killer device that wouldn’t only attract its fan base, but the general audience as well in Asia. What might be a bummer for some fans is that customers from the US might have to import the device.
Considering what this leak brings to the table, I would be delighted to see an official announcement from Xiaomi about the device, especially for its price.
