Here’s Your First Look at Atari’s New Console, the Ataribox – More Details Revealed

Not too long ago, we reported that Atari is working on a new console, called the Ataribox. CEO of Atari also confirmed that the company is working on a brand new console. Well, today, we received an e-mail from Atari with brand new details about the new console.

Two Designs – Wood and Glass:

In the e-mail, Atari said that the console will come in two color schemes. One will be with wood at the front and the other will be black and red, with glass at the front.

“Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.

The design of the console looks sleek, with modern I/O i.e. 4x USB ports, 1x HDMI port, SD Card slot and ethernet port. The console adapts the classic design style of Atari, with raised back and a great retro look, especially on the wooden version.

“We intend to release two editions: a wood edition, and a black/red edition.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.

According to Atari, the Ataribox has the modern hardware but it will play retro games too, as well as modern games.

“As you can guess, those ports suggest modern internal specs. It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.

  1. Well we shall see what this thing does. There’s no need for another retro console especially when any computer can run an emulator with 100s of games.
