Not too long ago, we reported that Atari is working on a new console, called the Ataribox. CEO of Atari also confirmed that the company is working on a brand new console. Well, today, we received an e-mail from Atari with brand new details about the new console.
Two Designs – Wood and Glass:
In the e-mail, Atari said that the console will come in two color schemes. One will be with wood at the front and the other will be black and red, with glass at the front.
“Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.
The design of the console looks sleek, with modern I/O i.e. 4x USB ports, 1x HDMI port, SD Card slot and ethernet port. The console adapts the classic design style of Atari, with raised back and a great retro look, especially on the wooden version.
“We intend to release two editions: a wood edition, and a black/red edition.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.

As you can see above, the wood on the front of the console truly gives it a nice retro look. However, those who don’t like the retro finish can go for the modern red/black finish, which you can see below.

It Will Play Both Retro and Modern Games:
According to Atari, the Ataribox has the modern hardware but it will play retro games too, as well as modern games.
“As you can guess, those ports suggest modern internal specs. It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content.”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.
No Details About Specs, Release Date, Pricing, etc. Yet:
Atari has not revealed the specs, release date or pricing of the Ataribox yet. But they did assure us that they will be revealing more details soon. Atari is going step by step and they are collecting the valuable feedback of the gamers, as they develop this console.
“We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so. There are a lot of milestones, challenges and decision points in front of us in the months ahead. We’ll be giving you lots more information and status updates as we progress, and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!”
– Said Atari in the e-mail.
In the end, Atari said that they will be in touch soon. The e-mail was sent out to everyone who has signed up on the Ataribox website.

Well we shall see what this thing does. There’s no need for another retro console especially when any computer can run an emulator with 100s of games.
There isn’t a major market for this machine. There. I said it.
