Forza Horizon 3 has been impressing fans and gamers alike. With the launch of their Hot Wheels expansion, Turn10 Studios also brought a number of improvements for PC gamers. This includes graphics improvements as well as general improvements to the game.
These improvements do not require gamers to buy the Forza Horizon 3 Hot Wheels expansion. The latest update comes with improved CPU utilization to take advantage of cores allowing cores to be utilized efficiently. Turn10 Studios says:
We have observed that a large portion of players are CPU limited when trying to run Forza Horizon 3 at high frame rates, including locked 60 FPS and unlocked. By analyzing telemetry, we have developed targeted optimizations for this group of affected players by increasing the number of concurrent threads used by the render architecture. We have taken further advantage of DX12 capabilities to allow the visuals to be processed out of order during the frame, in order to reduce synchronization stalls and decrease CPU execution duration. These changes result in a significant CPU performance gain on High or Ultra settings when running on PCs of Recommended spec or better.
We have updated our threading affinity model to make better use of all available cores. Along with this change, we have added a new graphics option to disable the new model, should you prefer. This option can be found in the Video Settings menu under “Threaded Optimization”. – Turn10
Additionally, for PC gamers that are running Forza Horizon 3 with hardware that are below the requirements, the team has included a ‘Very Low’ option for the Dynamic Geometry Quality and World Car Level of Detail. With these configurations in tandem with dynamic optimization should really improve the frame rates for such PC gamers.
After these tweaks, they have finally updated the recommended specifications to run the game.
