Xiaomi’s $180 Redmi Note 4 Mimics Samsung’s Design Language, But That’s Good

While Samsung has been trying to distinguish itself from other smartphones, there’s no doubt, the smartphone giant carries some inspiration for other brands as well. With the recent announcements of their smartphones featuring curved sides for comfort, it has been one of the more practical steps that a smartphone manufacturer has made yet allowing users to grip their hands on their smartphones better.

Meanwhile Samsung is enjoying the top-ride, Xiaomi, on the other hand is very well known of bringing those features down to a lower price point while maintaining quite a high-quality standard. With Xiaomi’s recent release of their classic Redmi Note 4, the next note from Xiaomi is out in China right now with expectations of topping the charts.

The Redmi Lineup of smartphones is what the manufacturer touts is one of their core brands featuring a large screen with decently powerful specifications. Last year, Xiaomi was quick enough to unveil their Redmi Note 3, which was quite similar to it’s predecessor, the Redmi Note 2. However, this year’s model brings quite a number of distinguishable changes from the inside out. Let’s have a deeper look, shall we?

Unlike last year’s Redmi Note 3 and Pro, this year’s Redmi Note 4 packs a deca-core Helio X20, 5.5 inch Full HD display paired with a 2.5D curved glass, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front cam along with the choice of two storage sizes, 16GB or 64GB. The 16GB variant comes packed with 2GB of RAM, meanwhile, the 64GB variant comes with 3GB of RAM. It’s also worth mentioning that the Redmi Note 4 comes with a hyrbid expansion which allows you to utilize two SIM cards or a single MicroSD card and a single SIM.

Chamfered edges are seen to be present on the Redmi Note 4 ad the speaker placement seems to become the norm right now. 2.5D Glass is also present along with the rear metal curving around the sides allowing a seamless grip on the phone which seems really familiar to Samsung’s recent releases.

Pricing and Availability

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 is currently available in China for RMB 899 and RMB 1199 for the 2GB/16GB and 3GB/64GB configuration. As far as price conversions go, that’s approx. US $134/RM 540 for the 2GB/16GB variant and US$ 179/MYR 723 for the 3GB/64GB variant.

As of the Indian pricing, it should be priced around INR 8999 and INR 11,999 for the 2GB/16GB and 3GB/64GB variants, respectively.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 should hit Malaysian shores by next month. Other countries where Xiaomi hasn’t established shall import the phones. Although, Xiaomi might be arriving in the US soon. Let’s stay tuned for that!
