In the 90s, people used to just plug a cartridge in and enjoy the game. Now the technology has changed. Since the era of 2004-2005, games get DLCs or downloadable content. DLC usually extra features of the game that are bought separately. Some DLCs bring new maps to the game, some bring new weapons, etc. Popularity of downloadable content is increasing day by day. So, without further ado, here are 5 games that were made great by DLCs:

1. Star Wars Battlefront:
EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront arrived on the PS4, PC and Xbox One. The fourth DLC of the Star Wars: Battlefront will soon release in 2017. The first DLC known as Outer Rim which arrived in April.
Outer Rim DLC took the game to the next level. There were some bugs in the DLCs but they’ve been addressed and fixed by DICE. Star Wars: Battlefront’s DLCs made the game even more successful. If you own Star Wars: Battlefront, do check out its DLCs too.
2. Dark Souls 2:
Dark Soul 2 is one of most difficult games which got even more challenging with the addition of three exciting DLCs which offered new enemies, weapons, new arena battles and PvP battles. Crown of Ivory King is one of the most challenging boss in the whole series. Dark Souls 2 is quite old and with the release of Dark Souls 3, the DLCs are free since February 2015.
3. Dying Light:
Dying Light was thought to be another typical zombie game but it was quite successful. Dying Light’s unique gameplay and good story caught the eyes of gamers. The new DLC of Dying Light is called Dying Light: The Following. It does not only contains new enemies, gears and weapons but also an upgrade-able buggy which you can use to traverse on the huge map full of zombies. Dying Light: The Following is good-enough to be featured on this list of 5 games that were made great by DLCs.
4. GTA 4:
Grand Theft Auto 4 was released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The Lost And Damned DLC of GTA 4 featured 30 new missions. It also featured a new protagonist named Johnny Klebitz and The Lost Bike Gang. This new mission pack also contained new weapons and mini-games.
The Ballad of Gay Tony was the last DLC for Grand Theft Auto 4 which had additional features like access to more buildings in the game, military helicopter known as Buzzard and access to nightclub Hercules in the Liberty City.
5. Mass Effect 2:
Mass Effect 2 is an action role playing game developed by Bioware. Well, this game got awesome DLCs and some of the DLCs were nominated for best downloadable content at Spike Video Game Awards. The Cerberus Network is an online DLC and news service for Mass Effect 2. It can be accessed through the game’s main menu. Updates that are available on the Cerberus Network can be downloaded. The Cerberus Network of Mass Effect 2 featured:
- Normandy Crash Site.
- Firewalker pack.
- Arc Projector.
- Zaeed: The Price of Revenge.
- Mass Effect Genesis.
Cerberus Network can downloaded from Bioware’s social site.

Ballad of Gay Tony was literally the best example of quality DLC I’ve ever experienced.
(Really wish they’d follow suit with GTAV story DLC….)
